COUPLE v2.2

October 2024

New Features:

Rigid Body Modelling

The Mass Model component is now available in the design area. Users can define a rigid body model by specifying its physical properties, such as mass, moment of inertia, and offset from the center of mass. Additionally, the growing library of parameterized models in COUPLE can be leveraged, allowing for optimized assemblies using Frequency-Based Substructuring.

Possible applications:

  • Add mass points to reduce or modify the dynamic response of the system.
  • Model transmission simulators for decoupling from the component or assembly.
  • Model simple structures that behave as rigid bodies within the frequency range of interest.
  • Combine with stiffness models to include a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) for attenuating dynamic response.

New result types

The latest update to COUPLE introduces enhanced insights into system response through Frequency-Based Substructuring. This approach provides a clearer understanding of the total system response and the interaction between individual subcomponents. By breaking down complex assemblies, users can gain deeper insights into overall performance, leading to more informed decision-making. Furthermore, the software now supports a broader range of standard result types, expanding its utility and making results more accessible for various applications.

New available result types include:

  • Interface forces: Access the interface/contact forces at interface points between subcomponents.
  • Complex power: Analyze mechanical power flow through the assembly.
  • Coupled FRF: Analyze the system response (FRF) due to unit load input.
  • Prediction: Study the system response to externally applied load.

Improved functionality

PCH reading improvements

  • Non-equidistant frequency spacing is now supported.
  • Users have full control over the units of the datasets.

Model library

  • Users can now preview datasets in the model library under Data.
  • A 3D viewer has been added, allowing visualization of the component model and its measurement or node positions.
  • When importing a file (e.g., *.dirac) containing multiple datasets, users are prompted to select which dataset to add to the library.
  • Managing channels and interfaces of datasets in the model library is now more streamlined.
  • Reordering of models is now possible.

Improvements and bug fixes

  • The memory footprint of COUPLE has been reduced, and users now have the option to remove datasets while retaining graphs in Analyze.
  • A new overview of used models is available in the design area.
  • A Create section has been added in the design area.
  • The library is now resizable.
  • The Studies pane is now resizable.
